The Office’s Dwight Schrute on workplace motivation

The Office Dwight Schrute Guide to Workplace Motivation

Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson), NBCUniversal

Fans of the old NBC show “The Office” know that the workplace comedy is not only chock full of unintentional wisdom, but also full of unintentional motivation.

Take Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson), the show’s resident weirdo, whose quirkiness is matched only by his lust for success.

In the short scene below, Schrute is getting ready to ask his boss for a raise. To do so, he secludes himself in a stairwell where he pumps himself up with some Mötley Crüe, jumping around and performing ninja kicks.

While we can’t exactly recommend that you blast hair metal in your office, we are a fan of his motivation tactics, which involve talking to yourself along with a real commitment to being true to yourself.

The clip is also oddly instructive. In just 30 seconds, Schrute explains what he wants, why he wants it, and ends on a note we could also deserve to take to heart: Because I’m awesome.

We hope you enjoy it and invite you to seek out your own motivational ritual.
