How I met “the one”: 10 true stories

May 8, 2014

Stuck momentI don’t think I’m ever going to meet someone to spend my life with. There’s no one at work, and my friends’ friends are duds. I can’t even remember the last time I had a date. I’m losing hope.

The one thing that’s sure about love is that it doesn’t follow a set script. On occasion, the storybook romance may come true, but real-life love stories have always arrived in odd shapes and sizes. Factor in modern day technology, globalization, and transportation, plus shifting gender roles, and we’ve got more variations on the theme than Cupid ever imagined.

But don’t just take our word for it. We gathered stories and advice from 10 people who met “the one,” their special someone, in some unexpected ways: high in the Himalayas, at the tender age of 17, on the heels of a second divorce. They remind us that the right person can arrive when and how we least expect it. And when it does happen, our love experts advise us to stay open to possibilities and be willing to do the work — it will be worth it.
