When something doesn’t go quite right, whether it’s big or small, it’s natural to think of it in terms of a broader momentum. I’m having a bad week. I’m on a losing streak. But that brand of negative thinking can often become a self-fulfilling prophecy that begets more disappointment.

The truth is that our setbacks are momentary and temporary. They also have important things to teach us. After all, to take lessons and motivation from a failure, stumble, or misstep is the essence of grit and resilience.
