Julia Child’s Stuck Moment as a Drifter

October 18, 2011

Her stuck moment: As wife of a U.S. embassy official in Paris—but without a job or children—Child lacked purpose to her days.

She sets a goal: She fell in love with Parisian food, so, in spite of her shaky attempts in the kitchen to date, she tasked herself with learning how to cook French.

Unstuck result: Child graduated from Le Cordon Bleu cooking school and co-authored the bestseller “Mastering the Art of French Cooking.”
