Mary Kay Ash’s Stuck Moment as an Ad Libber

Her stuck moment: As a working woman in the early and mid-20th century, Ash believed she was overlooked for business opportunities because of her gender. 

She comes up with a game plan: She retired in 1963 and planned to write a book to help women in business. The book turned into the business plan for her company, Mary Kay Cosmetics.

Unstuck result: Starting with $5,000 and a 500 square-foot store in 1963, Mary Kay Cosmetics is now a $2.5 billion business that employs more than 350,000 beauty consultants.
