Rachael Ray’s Stuck Moment as a Tunnel Visionary

October 18, 2011

Her stuck moment: Ray wanted a career in food but not in New York City, where she was mugged—twice. She heads back home to a dead-end job selling gourmet groceries in Albany, NY.

She strays from the usual: Ray noticed that prepared foods sold better than packaged groceries, so she proposed 30-minute cooking classes at the store to boost grocery sales.

Unstuck result: A local TV station airs Ray’s classes, and two years later, she has a best-selling cookbook and a guest spot on the “Today Show.”
